Today is my birthday, and my favorite thing in the world is a good chocolate cake. A classic Southern chocolate cake holds a special place in my heart. It's a tradition in my family, baked by my mom, grandmother, and aunts for family holidays, events, and of course, my birthday.
The recipe I love the most is one I found, changed, and adapted to fit my taste. The base recipe is from Frank Stitt’s kitchen, created by Dol Miles, a living legend among the people of Birmingham, Alabama. She was named as the James Beard Pastry Chef of the Year in 2018 and emerged as an African American beacon. Please see the recipe below.
