SPEAKER 3
I am grateful to have been loved and to be loved now and to be able to love because that liberates. Love liberates. It doesn't just hold. That's ego.

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these. The homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

It is indeed marvelous. An irony-free zone where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. Where everybody, regardless of race, creed, color, or degree of inebriation, is welcomed.

Concept Reel for Waffle House Documentary

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses

Back in 2022 we created this concept reel as a pitch for a potential documentary film. While the film never took shape, this concept reel proved to be a precursor to the ideas that would eventually become The American Table.

The film was centered on drawing a comparison between the Statue of Liberty and the golden Waffle House sign as symbols of welcome and hope for the diverse, teaming, huddles masses of the American people.

With President Biden’s recent visit to a Waffle House after his debate with former president Donald Trump in Atlanta, it seemed like the perfect time to share this old concept from the archives with The American Table community!

The American Table is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
