I recently got back from my first-ever trip to beautiful Savannah, Georgia. My wife and I were there for a long weekend celebrating our five-year wedding anniversary.
Before going, I of course got some recommendations from
for where to eat. Clary’s Cafe came in as one of his favorites. So we had to check it out. It’s a delightfully simple cafe located on a block corner right on Jones Street.Jones Street, we learned, is known as the most scenic street in downtown Savannah. It is perfectly framed by colorful historical homes on either side and a canopy formed by the famous live oaks and hanging Spanish moss. And the road is one of the only remaining cobblestone streets as well!
And Clarys’ food definitely did not disappoint. I can enjoyed the “stuffed peanut butter and banana” French toast topped with whipped cream. I wouldn’t have thought to combine fresh toast and peanut butter, but it was pretty great!
Our other favorite find was Gallery Espresso, a European style coffee shop and apparently the oldest coffee spot in Savannah. These kinds of European shops are a stark contrast to the brightly-lit, modern-style coffeeshops with white walls. This shop looks more like Central Perk from Friends. Lots of wood, dimly lit, and populated with eclectic vintage furniture and decorations.
For sale on the walls are original paintings by local artists. Also seen for sale and siting on an old cabinet, beautiful vintage china dishes right next to a copy of the board game Candy Land. LOL!
